Migration from SAP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA using the Ready2HARE Packaged Solution to eliminate unnecessary customizations and modernize the ICT platform of an Italian manufacturing excellence.

REFEL Spa is a manufacturing company based in Friuli, active in the “Glass, Ceramics & Concrete” sector. Founded in 1986 as a spin-off from the Bisazza Group, after several ownership transitions within international groups, it was acquired by the Turkish group SISECAM in 2022. REFEL began its collaboration with PA ABS in 2019, starting with SAP Application Management services, and in 2020 launched its SAP S/4HANA migration journey.

CHALLENGE

REFEL’s SAP ECC 6.0 environment was the result of years of modifications and extensive customizations, requested over time to adapt processes to the continuously evolving business context.

This had created a complex system with numerous custom ABAP developments that made maintenance costly and increased risk during upgrade activities. The main challenge was therefore to rationalize the entire system, eliminating no-longer-needed customizations and migrating to SAP S/4HANA while preserving business continuity.

SOLUTION

The solution adopted by REFEL is Ready2HARE, PA ABS’s Packaged Solution designed to guide companies through the SAP S/4HANA migration journey.

The Ready2HARE approach enabled REFEL to:

  • Define a structured and controlled project plan for the SAP S/4HANA migration
  • Identify and remove all no-longer-needed custom ABAP developments
  • Standardize business processes by adopting SAP best practices
  • Migrate the SAP infrastructure — previously moved from an Austrian to an Italian data centre — to the new S/4HANA platform

Composed of three companies operating across 15 locations nationwide and with more than 600 employees, we are one of the key players in Italy’s digital transformation.

Connecthub Digital also provides advanced consulting services for optimising business processes on the SAP platform and has a highly specialised Business Intelligence team focused on SAP technologies to support data-driven decision-making. Its operational headquarters are located in Mantua.

In November of the same year, through PA Expertise, Alveo acquired IT Strategy S.r.l., a company that supports the adoption of Microsoft infrastructures, Cloud solutions and Modern Workplace environments, also offering Managed Services with a model particularly suited to SMEs. IT Strategy specialises in compliance consulting and cybersecurity, with advanced competencies to address the latest regulatory requirements. Its distinctive assets include compliance analysis services and the proprietary Digital 365 suite for the digital management of business processes. Its operational headquarters are located in Vicenza.
